Football Scholarship Programme
Dunstable Town Football Club and Northfields Technology College have formed a partnership to provide young footballers between the ages of 16 and 18 with the opportunity to combine full time education whilst developing their football ability in preparation for a possible career in football together with an academic programme appropriate to their needs and aspirations.
The Football Scholarship Programme runs at the main Northfields Technology College campus in central Dunstable where lessons, tutorials and training all take place.
Course Details
Students who are accepted onto the Football Scholarship Programme become full-time students at Northfields Technology College and can enrol on either:
- Level 2 BTEC 1st Diploma in Sport which is a one year course equivelant to 4A* - C GCSE’s or
- Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport which is a two year course equivelant to 3 A levels.
What do I need?
BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport - 1 year full-time
LEVEL 2
Students will need to have completed secondary education and will need GCSE's at Grade C to D and show a keen interest in football and a good fitness level
BTEC National Diploma in Sport - 2 years full-time
LEVEL 3
You will need 4 GCSE's at Grade A-C or the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport at merit level and show a keen interest in football and a good fitness level

BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport - 1 year full-time
3 Compulsory Units
- *The Sports Industry
- *Preparation for Sport
- *Health, Safety & Injury
3 Specialist subjects from
- *Sports Leadership Skills
- *The Sports Performer
- *Practical Sport
- *Work based Project
In addition students will develop and study key skills at an appropriate level and will also study
- *First Aid at Work
- *Level 1 in Football Coaching.
Is it an exam or assessment?
Five units are internally assessed and one unit is an externally assessed project.
Next step
This qualification is designed to help you gain employment in the sport/leisure industry or progress to a higher level qualification.
BTEC National Diploma in Sport - 2 years full-time

In addition students will also study:
Level 1 in Football Coaching Certificate ( Year 1 )
Level 2 in Football Coaching Certificate ( Year 2 )
Is it an exam or assessment?
Students will be continually assessed through coursework, assignments and practical performance.
Next step
Progression onto University Higher Education within a sport related degree or employment within the sport/leisure industry.
